Datuk Megat Abdul Munir is a founding partner of the firm and leads the Kuala Lumpur branch as well as three of the firm’s practice areas; namely Foundation laws, Corporate & Commercial and Litigation. His notable corporate works include the acquisition of public-listed companies (both amicable and hostile), issuance of a RM10 billion Sukuk, and the management buyout of companies with extensive knowledge and experience over numerous industries including oil and gas service, renewable energy, housing development, telecommunication, and automotive.

Datuk Megat also has the expertise in managing cross-border affairs and disputes on behalf of Malaysian and international multinational clients, having led teams in construction disputes in Dubai and Qatar as well as a patent dispute in the Philippines. His reputation as an exceptional litigator is the cornerstone of the firm’s growth and success.

He has served as a director of Tong Herr Resources Berhad, a Taiwanese multinational company headquartered and listed in Malaysia since 1999. After three succeeding years, the company appointed him to chair its Audit Committee. Datuk Megat is also a director and member of the audit and risk committees of Cypark Resources Berhad, a publicly traded firm pioneering green technology, waste-to-energy, and renewable energy in Malaysia. Recently, he was appointed to the Board of Sapura Resources Berhad as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director (Alternate Director to Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shahril bin Shamsuddin).

In nearly three decades of legal practice, his ability to offer multifaceted guidance, insight, and views from both the commercial and litigation standpoint to protect the clients’ interests, whilst avoiding pitfalls and minefields, is the most distinctive and highly sought-after part of his competence.

Datuk Megat’s vast experience in corporate litigation has earned him the recognition of clients as a trusted “consiglieri” in advising boards of directors and shareholders of private, public-listed, multinational, and government-linked companies. He advises on foreign investments, mergers and acquisitions, listing and compliance requirements as well as queries from Bursa Malaysia and the Securities Commission.

Among his distinguished involvements in organisations, charitable and social works are his roles as the Supervisory Person, also known as the Protector, of the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation (a foundation in support of patients and survivors of breast cancer), the first Labuan Charitable Foundation; Honorable Secretary of Malay College Old Boys Associations, Deputy President of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Laws Alumni of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), and a senior trainer of the Advocacy Training Course under the auspices of the Malaysian Bar Council.

Datuk Megat was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1994, after completing his Bachelor of Laws at IIUM.

On 24th August 2022, Datuk Megat was conferred with the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (D.P.S.M) which carries the title Datuk by His Excellency Tun Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Rustam, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka on the occasion of His Excellency’s 73rd Birthday.

Datuk Megat enjoys his travels and is an avid snorkeler.
