Datuk Megat Abdul Munir is a founding partner of the firm and leads the Kuala Lumpur branch as well as the firm’s Corporate & Commercial and Foundation laws practice areas. He is also heavily involved in the firm’s litigation practice area where his vast experience in corporate litigation has earned him the recognition of clients as a trusted “consiglieri” in advising boards of directors and shareholders of private, public-listed, multinational and government-linked companies. He advises on foreign investments, mergers and acquisitions, listing and compliance requirements as well as queries from Bursa Malaysia and the Securities Commission.

Amongst others, his notable corporate works include the acquisition of public-listed companies (both amicable and hostile), issuance of a RM10 billion Sukuk and the management buyout of companies. He has extensive knowledge and experience over numerous industries including construction, oil and gas service, renewable energy, housing development, telecommunication and automotive.

In leading the firm’s Corporate & Commercial practice area, Datuk Megat is also instrumental in the execution as well as implementation of the nation’s first Transit Oriented Development (“TOD”), along the Kelana Jaya LRT line, where he represented and advised the TOD Developer from the acquisition of land to meeting all the relevant authorities in obtaining the requisite approvals, from negotiating and executing the joint venture and construction contracts as well as in advising the TOD Developer on various legal compliance issues up to the successful completion of the TOD Project.

He also has the expertise in managing cross-border affairs and disputes on behalf of Malaysian and international multinational clients, having led teams in construction disputes in Dubai and Qatar as well as a patent dispute in the Philippines. His reputation as an exceptional litigator is the cornerstone of the firm’s growth and success.

In nearly three decades of legal practice, Datuk Megat’s ability to offer multifaceted guidance, insight and views, both from the commercial and litigation standpoint to protect the clients’ interests, whilst avoiding pitfalls and minefields, is his most distinctive and highly sought-after skill.

He has served as a director and the Audit Committee Chairman of Tong Herr Resources Berhad, a Taiwanese multinational company headquartered and listed in Malaysia since 1999. Datuk Megat is also a director and Chairman of the Audit and Nomination Committees of Cypark Resources Berhad, a firm pioneering green technology, waste-to-energy and renewable energy listed on Bursa Malaysia. In 2022, he was appointed to the Board of Sapura Resources Berhad as a Non-Independent Non-Executive Director (Alternate Director to Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Shahril bin Shamsuddin).

Despite his packed schedule, he finds time for charitable and social endeavour where he is the Supervisory Person, also known as the Protector, of the Pink Ribbon Wellness Foundation (a foundation in support of patients and survivors of breast cancer) the first Labuan Charitable Foundation, the Honorary Secretary of Malay College Old Boys Association (MCOBA), the Deputy President of Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyah of Laws Alumni of the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and a senior trainer of the Advocacy Training Course under the auspices of the Malaysian Bar Council.

Datuk Megat was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1994, after completing his Bachelor of Laws at IIUM.

On 24th August 2022, Datuk Megat was conferred with the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (D.P.S.M) which carries the title Datuk by His Excellency Tun Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Mohd Ali Bin Mohd Rustam, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Melaka on the occasion of His Excellency’s 73rd Birthday.

Datuk Megat enjoys his travels and is an avid snorkeler.
