Megat Abdul Munir is a founding partner of the firm and leads the Kuala Lumpur branch as well as two of the firm’s practice areas. These are namely Corporate & Commercial and the Foundation Laws practice areas. Megat’s notable corporate works include advising and negotiating a licensing and technology transfer agreement for an automobile manufacturer, takeover of public-listed companies be it hostile or amicable, issuance of a RM10 billion Sukuk, the management buy-out and takeover of oil and gas service providers.
Megat relishes the opportunity to go against the tide and is well-equipped to manage cross-border matters and disputes on behalf of both Malaysian and international multi-national clients. Since 1999, he has been appointed as a director of a Taiwanese global multi-national company based and listed in Malaysia and entrusted to chair its Audit Committee since 2002. He also sits on the board of a public listed company which is the pioneer in Malaysia for renewable energy, green technology and waste to energy as a director, audit and risk management committee.
He started out as a litigator with experience, both domestically and internationally and has led a team of construction disputes in Dubai and Qatar as well as a patent dispute in the Philippines. His reputation as a fearsome litigator is the cornerstone to the firm’s growth and success.
The most unique aspect and highly sought after of Megat’s legal expertise is his ability to provide multi facet advice, insight and opinions from the corporate and the litigation standpoint in protecting the clients’ interest whilst avoiding pitfalls and minefields in close to 3 decades of his legal practice.
His vast experience in corporate litigation has earned him the recognition of clients as a trusted “consiglieri” in advising boards of directors and shareholders of private, public-listed, multi-national and government-linked companies. He advises on foreign investments, mergers and acquisitions, listing and compliance requirements as well as queries from Bursa Malaysia and the Securities Commission.
Megat completed his Bachelor of Laws at International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 1994. Megat enjoys travelling and is an avid snorkeler.
